How Should I Plan My Visit To Coimbra, Considering Its Climate?

The weather in Coimbra is like that of the Mediterranean. So, it has a generally mild climate, with annual average temperatures between 21.2 ° C and 9.8 ° C. The rains show how the Mediterranean climate goes from being very dry in the summer to being rainy in the fall and winter. On the other hand, there is a lot of rain between the dry and rainy seasons in the spring.

Coimbra experiences average summer temperatures ranging from 29°C in August, the warmest month of the year, to 15°C in January. In the coldest month of winter, January, the average low temperature is around 5 ° C. Even though the average high temperature is 14 ° C., it can get as high as 22 ° C. In the summer, the highest temperature can sometimes be higher than 35 ° C.

October through February are the wettest months. On average, between 900 and 950 mm of rainfall per year in Coimbra. August, September, and June are the driest months. Snow doesn’t happen very often.

When To Visit Coimbra

Most of the time, the weather is good and warm from May to September. This is the time of year when it rains the least. This is when tourists should go to Coimbra and most of Portugal.

Do you want warm weather? Then go to Coimbra in August, when the average temperature is 22°C, and it can get up to 29°C at its warmest. On the other hand, January is the coldest month, with temperatures as low as 5°C and an average of 9°C. When about 127 mm of rain falls in December, it’s likely to rain more. On the other hand, July is usually the driest month in Coimbra, with only 13 mm of rain on average.

Where exactly is Coimbra?

Coimbra is on the north side of the Mondego River, between the cities of Aveiro and Viseu in the center of Portugal. Lisbon and Porto are connected by the country’s main north-south railway, so there are many fast and direct services.

How to Get to Coimbra from the Airport in Lisbon

You can drive, take the train, or take a bus to Coimbra. But if you want to take it easy on your trip, you don’t need to rent a car from Lisbon Airport to Coimbra because Portugal has good public transportation.

Take the Aerobus from Lisbon Airport to the Oriente train station if you want to go by train. From there, you can take the Alfa Pendular, which costs €22.50 and is the fastest, most comfortable, and WiFi-free service. This will take about an hour and a half, and then you can take the Intercidades, which costs €16.50 and takes almost two hours to get to Coimbra-B station.

To get to the Sete Rios bus terminal by bus, you can take the Aerobus. You can take the Rede Expressos or another bus to Coimbra, taking approximately two hours and costing about €13.

How to go from Porto Airport to Coimbra

The fastest and least expensive method will be to use the Metro, which is linked to the airport since it is just 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) from the city to the Francisco Sá Carneiro airport in Porto. From the airport, follow the signs and take line E (Violeta) to the Campanh train station. The Metro runs every 20 minutes, and the trip takes about 40 minutes and costs about €2 each.

Like Oriente, the Campanh railway station has two kinds of train services. Alfa Pendular, the fastest but the most expensive, and Intercidades. The Alfa Pendular trains run almost every hour, and getting to Coimbra-B takes less than an hour. Intercidades take about an hour and a half and cost €11.50.

Pedro’s lover and then his wife, was killed. In 1600, King Joo IV decided to build a new monastery in a much safer place. This monastery is now called the Santa-Clara-a-nova monastery.

The original monastery was just fixed up and put back on the market. The Santa Cruz monastery, which contains the grave of Alfonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, is another fascinating place of worship in Coimbra.
